New York travel diary - the sights

10/10/2017

Napok óta válogatom azt a rengeteg képet, amit a 2 hetes New York-i utazásunk alatt készítettünk.

I've been sorting the pictures we took on our 2 weeks trip to New York City for days now. I finally made the decision to present the pictures in two parts for you, showing what i think one should see in the city that never sleeps. Today i brought you tons of pictures, gathering those sights that are a good idea to visit the same day, either because they are close to each other, or they are easy to reach with publc transport. I won't be including a detailed description to each sight because everyone can search the internet in 2 seconds for information about New York, but i hope i'll be able to give you some ideas for a future trip, or at least make the planning easier.

1. - One World Trade Center, Broadway, Wall Street, ellején a híres bika szoborral és a Staten Island Ferry

Look down to this amazing city either from the top of the One World Trade Center or the Empire State Building, but just so you know, WTC is higher (moreover the highest building in the western hemisphere) and cheaper as well. The Staten Island Ferry is for free though, so it's definitely worth a ride!

2. - Empire State building, Broadway, Flatiron Building, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, The high line, Grand Central Station, Saint Patrick's Cathedral

Ezen a napon rengeteg olyan helyet tudtok meglátogatni, amik biztos mindenkinek ismerősek, de amiről talán nem olyan sokan hallottatok az a High Line, ami gyakorlatilag egy magasított park, amit egy régi vasútvonal átalakításával építettek. Nagyon hangulatos New York nyüzsgő utcái fölött, egy csupa zöld, zegzugos parkban sétálgatni.

On this day, you could score a lot of sights that probably most of you have known about, but there is one that's maybe not so famous; the High Line. It's basically a park that was transformed from an earlier freight rail line. It's really cool to walk above the buy streets of New York while we are surrounded by nature.

3. - Brooklyn & Manhattan bridge, Jane's carousel,  Prospect park, Coney Island

You have to walk across the Brooklyn Brige and once you're there find Washington Street where you can take a peek at the iconic sight, the Manhattan Bridge. Prospect Park is not far away with the botanical garden, but if you feel like going to the beach, just hop on the N train and don't stop until you reach Coney Island!

4. - Central Park

If you have the time, leave a whole day to Central Park, make a picnic, rent a boat or get lost while feeding squirrels.

5. - Roosevelt Island, Chinatown

There is not much to see on Roosevelt Island, besides the ruins of an old smallpox hospital, but the Tramway on the way there is so much fun (and you metrocard covers this ride too), plus you can take cool pictures of Mahattan from the small island.  If you happen to be in Chinatown, try their food; the prices are low and the portions are big!

Ha igazán ráértek nézzetek be néhány múzeumba vagy akár át is utazhattok New Jersey-be, ami nem csak egy teljesen külön város alig pár kilométerre New Yorktól, de egy plusz államot is kipipálhattok azon a képzeletbeli térképen.

If you really have a lot of time, check some museums or travel only a few kilometres to New Jersey, which is not only a separate city bt a whole new state to cross over on that imaginary map.

Don't forget to try amazing food and drinks on your trip, but more about this in my second post, where i also share what to prepare with, when travelling to NYC.
